Most of my time around Bangalore is spent wit my nieces, hanging out at home,  and letting the kids run loose all over the apartment complex. The loved it! Such a change from being policed by a parent all the time. Sometimes I hung out with them while they played and sketched…

Q
uick sketch of a grouping of palms. Apartment in the background.

Colorful stuff around the apartment. I didn’t draw int he walls, which are mango and lime green in color. Such a happy apartment!

Mochi (cobbler) at his shack on the sidewalk. Nice 3-finger stripey patterns on the inside of his shack. That was fun to paint in watercolor! Dust-colored everything.

Looking down at the kids playing.  Fun angle to draw. The kids played downstairs. I sketched at the apartment above. A gardener sat nearby hand-trimming the grass at a leisurely pace.

4th Block, Jayanagar. Vegetable market. The blue tarp cast a beautiful light over the scene.

The town of Tacoma was a wonderful surprise: such a great mix of old, old buildings and modern architecture like the Glass Museum.

These two sketches were made very quickly while watching a glass-making demo at the museum.

Two sketches from SAM:Everyone that passed this huge metal cloak would go peek inside it. Or take a closeup picture of the thousands of dogtags that made up the cloak. I loved the huge rat in the background. It’s about 1.5 times the size of a human, and sits atop a life size sleeping human figure.

The kids got museumed-out so I took them to the “kid area” where they could play with puzzles and generally be loud. They played, I sketched the view out of  a very narrow window.

This ballon guy had a different colored beard every day. he explained that he could collect a donation for a balloon, but not sell it to you. And he could only keep his spot for one hour. After that he had to give it up to any other artist or musician who wanted the spot. it all seemed very complicated. I could have sketched at Pike Place all week and not been done!

It rained on our last day in seattle so we went to the aquarium. this is the view from the cafeteria. the red of the cranes really stood out on a hazy, rainy day.

These 3 sketches are from the Flight Museum. Hari and the kids went around and looked at all the exhibits,I sat in the room of old planes, never looked at the rest of the museum and sketched…

The Whale Museum on San Juan island is a little gem of a place.  Nishant thought it should be called “The Cetacean Museum”.

Little tank on the pier, Friday Harbor.

More boats. Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, and Orcas Island.

It’s fun to draw a scene like this with a pen that isn’t waterproof. I like how the watercolors make the lines run…
